The Walmart FLW Tour Majors continue with the 2nd event of 2013 at Lewis Smith Lake in Jasper, Ala. kicking off tomorrow. Delta local Ish Monroe checked in today on tournament eve with his “pre blast-off update”.
“There’s a lot of little fish here,” said the pro from Hughson, Calif. “It’s tough; but someone will get ‘em. I’ve got a spot with a lot of fish; but they’re small and I’ve got to weed through them. I got 12 or 15 there and only two of them went 2-lbs.”
Monroe recalled his previous stops on the lake and continued his report. “It’s always like that for me here; but I always cash a check,” he continued. “One year, I only got two fish and still got a check – one on the first day a four pounder on my first cast in the morning and one on the second day a 4 ½-lb’r on the last cast.”
The two-tour pro fishing out of his River2Sea wrapped Ranger for the FLW event is known to have frog rod and flippin’ stick in hand; but stated, “If you can believe it, I’m fishing a dropshot and a shakey head. I’m not going to get overly crazy about it. I’m just going to go fishing and have fun.”
Monroe expects it take 13-lbs a day to claim the victory and nine a day to get a check.
The Lewis Smith Lake event runs from March 7 - 10.
The FLW Tour event can be watched live on their website.
