Delta local Ish Monroe shoots missiles at the Sabine River Challenge

Bassmaster Elite Series pro Ish Monroe from Hughson, Calif. claimed five for 11-13 at the Sabine River Challenge today. His limit of bass landed him in 6th place on the leaderboard for Day One of the first stop in the 2013 Elite Series.

“At my first spot, I got a limit within an hour and a half,” he stated at his weigh-in interview. “Then, I tied on Ish’s Phat Frog and culled one. I tied on Ish’s Bling after that and got another one.”

Monroe also reported picking up another five on a Missile Baits Craw. Although two of them were shorts, three were keepers. “I wasn’t able to drop bombs, I had to shoot Missiles at ‘em,” he said.

The Snag Proof frog color that he had on was Da Man and his signature series Bling bait was a River2Sea spinnerbait.

He thought his experience on his home water, the California Delta helped him on this fishery. “It reminds of fishing Sherman,” he stated.

As for Day Two Monroe remarked, "I'm going to catch fish and have fun."

He was leaving the scales to acquire some more baits that he needed at Daley’s Hunt and Fish.

Monroe was one of the 17 Elite pros able to land a full five-fish limit in the field of 100.

Dean Rojas from Lake Havasu City, Ariz. leads the event on Day One with 15-10. Rojas also reeled in the Carhartt Big Bass of the day at 5-15.

The 2013 Elite Series Sabine River Challenge presented by STARK Cultural Venues will continue tomorrow. Launch takes place at 7 a.m. CT and weigh-in begin at 3:15 p.m. CT.
