Delicious Discoveries: Georgia Food Tours

Grab your fork and go on an epicurean exploration of three Southern cities with Georgia Food Tours

Attention, epicurean explorers and foodie forayers of Atlanta! We’ve recently stumbled upon a creative culinary concept that’s highly worthy of an Atlanta staycation – or, at the very least, an outside-of-the-box date night experience. Established in 2010, Georgia Food Tours hosts tasty treks to a number of restaurants around Athens, Atlanta, and St. Simons Island. Let’s take a closer look…

Athens: As the birthplace of Georgia Food Tours, Athens offers up SIX different walking tour options for “Townie Grub & Haute Cuisine.”

  • Prince Avenue Tour
  • Downtown Tour
  • Five Points Tour
  • Bucket List Tour
  • Boulevard Tour
  • Athens Beer Tour

If you should elect to turn your evening in Athens into an overnighter, there are plenty of great hotels to choose from – most notable among them Hotel Indigo and Hilton Garden Inn Athens Downtown.

Atlanta: At the time of publication, Georgia Food Tours only has a “locally owned, locally sourced” Decatur Food Tour on its “Capital Cuisine” menu of offerings – with the promise to add more Atlanta tours in the Summer of 2014!

St. Simons Island: A beloved vacation get-away among Atlantans, St. Simons Island proves a satiating spot for Georgia Food Tours. At the time of publication, Georgia Food Tours offers two St. Simons tours.

  • Redfern Village Tour
  • The Pier Village Tour

With a 5 to 6 hour drive between the city streets of Atlanta and the beaches of St. Simons, chances are – you’ll need to book a room for either of these tours. We highly recommend the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort or the Inn at Sea Island.

Duration of these tours run anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, with most capping out at right around 3.

But wait… it gets better! Georgia Food Tours – founded by Mary Charles Howard, who grew up on a farm in Sandersville, Georgia – also offers Farm Tours. The Agro-Cycle Tour allows participants to explore the path their food takes from farm to table through visits to local organic and certified naturally grown farms near Athens such as Mills Farm (home of Red Mule Grits), Full Moon Farm and Woodland Gardens.
