Delicious Afghan food in an Afghan populated city

Fremont, Calif. The home of…the Afghans of course! Spending your average day in Fremont, you will notice there is a tremendous amount of people from Afghanistan. The city has even named part of Fremont Blvd. (the most Afghan populated street), “Little Kabul.” Being of Afghan descent myself, it feels great to have a heritage that usually is not seen in great light post 9/11, be able to bring a whole city together.

Having so many families from one country squished together in a semi small city, you can just imagine all of the stores and restaurants catered to their needs! One of the original establishments in the area is a hole in the wall joint that you probably would not even notice driving down the street if it wasn't for the line going out the door! De Afghanan Kabob House is a great place to grab a quick lunch/dinner when craving traditional Afghan Food without putting dent in your wallet.

Their Chaplee Kabob (flattened beef patty) is to die for, the combination of seasoned ground beef and fresh green onions feels like party in your mouth. Every entrée comes with white rice, Afghan salad (tomatoes, onions, cilantro) and nakut (vinegar seasoned chickpeas and potatoes). I’m usually not a big fan of nakut but they do a pretty decent job!

Although you cannot take your date, family or your mother here for lack of seating (only three tables squeezed together) it’s a great place for a quick take out on a Friday night.
