According to a report from the DNA on Jan 4, 2013, all the five accused in the barbaric gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old Delhi girl, who are lodged at the Tihar Central Jail, are under 'suicide watch' after they stopped interacting with each other.
The authorities at the jail said, all five accused and the sixth one a juvenile, were not talking to any of the jail mates. "They just sit and brood," a jail official told IANS.
"We are putting all kinds of check on them to keep them away from (committing) any untoward incident. They are basically on suicide watch, they are safe. There is no threat to them inside the jail," added the jail official.
The jail official also said the five against whom a chargesheet was filed in court on Thursday, faced no threat from the other jail inmates
The female physiotherapy student was gang raped and assaulted brutally in a moving bus in Delhi on Dec 16, 2012. She died thirteen days later while undergoing emergency treatment in Singapore for brain and gastrointestinal damage from the assault.
