Delaware libraries announce wireless internet access and eBooks

The Delaware Division of Libraries announced on Monday that all Delaware public libraries now provide wireless access to the internet.

Monday's announcement also stated that eBooks are now available as a beta test through the Delaware Library Catalog portal at www.lib.de.us. Thirteen hundred eBook titles are available, ready for library patrons to download to computers and eBook readers.

Libraries across America going digital

An American Library Association 2009-2010 study showed that 31.6% of Delaware's libraries had wireless internet access.  With today's announcement, Delaware's libraries now have internet access at all locations.  According to the American Library Association 2009-2010 study 82 percent of U.S. public libraries now provide Wi-Fi access.

A survey conducted in August 2010, by the American Library Association shows more than two-thirds of public libraries now offer e-books.

The starting point to create an account and prepare your device for downloading eBooks is the digital collection of the Delaware Library Catalog at http://Delaware.lib.overdrive.com.

Library friends groups throughout the state are supporting the initial eBook collection. Library users may also support the purchase of additional eBooks by joining the Friends or by making tax-deductible contributions to the Delaware Libraries eBook account at the Delaware Community Foundation, http://www.delcf.org.
