Deland man ticketed after driving into Volusia County Sheriff’s car Thursday

A Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured when his patrol car was hit by another vehicle early Thursday morning in Orange City. Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesperson Gary Davidson says 28-year old Deputy Roy Galarza was airlifted to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, but his injuries were not life-threatening. Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says Galarza’s patrol car was hit by another vehicle shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday at Volusia Avenue and Graves Avenue. Investigating troopers say 73-year old Kenneth Hasenbuhler of Deland tried to make a left turn onto Graves Avenue, and “struck the left side [of the patrol car].”  The deputy had to be cut out of the patrol car before being flown to the hospital. Troopers say Hasenbuhler was charged with violation of right of way.
