A Deland man was killed in a truck accident west of town early Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes say 23-year old John Pearce Junior was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, at New York Avenue and Paradise Drive. Troopers say Pearce was westbound on New York Avenue in a pickup truck at 3:50 Thursday morning " a high rate of speed...", when he lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason. The FHP says the truck left the road, “…struck a culvert and became airborne. The front [of the truck] then struck a tree.” The FHP says Pearce was not wearing a seat belt and that their investigation of the accident is continuing.
