Deland-area business owner foils break-in at shop Monday evening

The owner of a Deland-area business held two men at gunpoint Monday night after he said he caught the pair with stolen items from his shop and called deputies. Volusia County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Brandon Haught says deputies found the 64-year old man holding a shotgun on the two other men at West Crane Services on Newport Avenue around 8:50 p.m. The business owner and a friend had staked out the business, because it had been broken into last week. The shop owner told deputies they heard some noise outside Monday night, and found the two men in a vehicle about to leave the area. After the men were confronted and out of their SUV, deputies were called to the scene. They said a wrecking ball and large metal hook were located in the rear of the SUV. The business owner said the wrecking ball weighed over 200 pounds. Haught says 28-year old Ryan Moore and 27-year old Scott Sasek were charged with burglary, grand theft and violation of probation. The two were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
