The New York Rangers are close to reaching an agreement with their restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto.
The defensemen is close to a two-year deal with the Rangers. The new deal is expected to be worth $2.55 million per season.
Del Zotto was the Rangers first round pick in 2008 and had to re-sign with the team in order to practice in training camp today. He reportedly had a physical today.
Previously, he had declined to sign the team's qualifying offer and had no arbitration rights. Thus, he had very little leverage when the Rangers were talking a new contract.
Before the lockout, he had his best season of his young career, has he had a career-high 41 points, including career-high in goals (10) and assists (31).
He also had 10 points in the Rangers playoff run, including two goals.
