As part of an annual effort dating back to 1986, Del Papa Distributing, Landshark Lager, and Texas Adopt-a-Beach are encouraging Texas residents to participate in beach cleanup efforts on September 28, 2013. The project is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Day whereby volunteers will help to cleanup 28 designated beach areas.
International Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest ocean and waterways volunteer effort of its kind. The project encourages not just beach cleanup along the major coastal areas, but also cleanup of rivers, lakefronts, and other natural sites.
“Del Papa is proud to serve the Texas Gulf Coast and encourages residents to take part in this effort to keep our beaches clean and beautiful,” said Del Papa V.P of Business and Community Relations Peter Williamson.
Adopt-a-Beach first began in 1986 and since then, more than 446,000 volunteers have helped remove trash from Texas beaches. In total, the effort has removed more than 8,500 tons or 17 million pounds of trash. This is a tremendous amount of waste and the efforts of these volunteers have had a marked impact on the appearance and environmental health of these waterfront areas.
