Well, my Gmail just alerted me to the fact that Deitrick Haddon has released his new "Have Your Way" video on his DeitrickHaddonVEVO YouTube Channel, published on August 27, 2013, and already it's racking up the comments and views.
This Christian Music Examiner cannot tell you what a fan she is of Haddon's music, all the way back to his "Stand up if you got that Holy Ghost power" lyrics to his "7 Days" album to his "'Love Him Like I Do' song and video with Deitrick Haddon, Ruben Studdard and Mary Mary" and beyond.
He is an artist in every sense of the word, and when artists undergo the transitions that Haddon has recently -- with his recent divorce from his long-time wife, his move to L.A. and his new baby -- it is wonderful to watch how they express themselves through their art.
Haddon's "Have Your Way" reflects these changes, as he is seen sitting inside a church that preaches love but shows rejection. He leaves and walks through the ghetto, encountering a bunch of sinners in various scenarios, be they the married man hitting up a prostitute, the thief running out of an "EBT cards accepted" convenience store, or other types that Jesus welcomes wholeheartedly. The gaggle follows Haddon, who has set up a makeshift church atop a sewer platform that raises him up a bit.
Closing with the amazing refrain reminiscent of "all to thee my precious Savior," Haddon's new song seems apropos as the man is poised to break through to an even greater level when "Preachers of L.A.," a reality show set to air in October that exposes more of his life and scenes of his baby's mother telling him not to pastor her but to marry her, airs in October. (Haddon remarried, by the way.)
