On March 11, 2013, Tracey Edmonds, the current love interest of former NFL superstar Deion Sanders took the stand at the Dallas, Tex. custody trial of the athlete and his estranged wife, Pilar Sanders.
Although Edmonds told NBC News she did not want to be involved in the case, she was subpoenaed by Pilar’s attorneys in the matter, forcing Edmonds to fly in from California to testify.
Deion’s defense lawyers argued Edmonds does not have anything to do with the custody battle, but she was still required to take the stand.
According to NBC, Edmonds is the chief executive officer of a film production company and met Deion while attending church in 2011. She reportedly met Pilar at the couple’s home when the two were shooting a reality show in 2012.
Deion said he and Edmonds did not begin to date until after he filed for divorce from Pilar.
Pilar’s attorney, Larry Friedman, told NBC, “She’ll provide some insight into her relationship with Deion and some prospective into what a working woman does. I think one of Deion’s complaints is Pilar has been a working woman. I think Tracey’s also a working woman.”
The lawyer also alleged Edmonds harassed Pilar in the courthouse parking lot by circling her with her car and then later in the restroom—allegations Edmonds denies.
Deion called Pilar’s accusations “good old fashioned lies.”
Friedman told the courtroom that Edmonds has spent the night with Deion in the family home when the children were present, noting, “The concerns of adultery are obvious.”
When Deion’s friend and property manager, Billy Jones, was called to the stand, he testified he witnessed Pilar “beat” the couple’s children, and alleged one of them called him saying his mother had “gone crazy” because she lost a number of Twitter followers.
Pilar said Jones’ testimony is untrue, reports NBC.
Pilar testified that Deion has taken the children out of state when they were supposed to be in school, and described one incident in which she panicked when she discovered they were not in Oklahoma where she had been told they would be.
NBC reports that Deion is slated to testify at the custody trial on Tuesday.
