And it'd be foolish to say it wasn't doing everything right in the process. In accordance with an April release later this year, "Defiance," the third-person action MMO-style shooter, is releasing a multitude of promotional videos showcasing new weapons, maps, game modes, etc.
Today's video release (3/8) is all about the weapons and the modifications that come with them. When it comes to multiplayer, there's always the worry of staying power. "What's going to keep me coming back?" you might wonder, or "Where is my motivation."
Other than fun factor, customization now plays a bigger role in competitive multiplayer games than ever before and it seems that with this latest trailer the team over at Trion Worlds knows just what you want in that regard.
You've got your standard weapons like the rocket launcher and medic lasers, mixed in alongside some truly interesting weapon mods like the Infector, an infection type weapon that not only kills players but has tiny mutant creatures bursting from their corpses. Other mods include the Rebounder Cannon which allows for explosive shots to split into multiple mini-bombs for maximum damage.
All of this is nice and it's good to see the game embracing customization in both cooperative and competitive aspects of multiplayer, but it's the overall enjoyment and player community that will determine whether or not "Defiance" stays concurrent within the gaming society or fades away like so many third person shooters before it.
Look for "Defiance" in stores and available through both the PSN and XBLA later next month.
