Congress has been desperately attempting to pass new firearms legislation. Some states have been doing the same, with one state seemingly taking the lead, and that state is Colorado. Even though before the shootings in Newtown, Conn. at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, most would not have believed that Colorado would swing anti-gun!
We learn today that the current number of sheriff’s who have publicly stated that they will not enforce any new “unconstitutional” gun laws has grown to 340. Even though Colorado passed two new gun laws last week, Sheriff Cooke says that he “won’t bother enforcing the laws” according to The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA). The same organization notes there are a total of 15 Sheriff’s Associations that have also taken the same attitude.
One of the new legislative bills passed last week would require gun buyers to pay for their own background checks, and a second gun bill puts a 15 round limit on magazines. It is believed by many that Governor Hickenlooper will sign the two bills into law.
Many politicians are putting their political careers on the line for supporting more, and/or even tougher gun law restrictions. Today, March 19, 2013, MyFox.com reports that a Quinnipiac University poll about the popularity of Democratic Governor, Andrew Cuomo shows that Republicans once supported Cuomo with an approval rating of 74%, but now only 27% of Republicans support him. Gun control efforts by politicians will apparently be their political death knell.
