The Inglewood Blackhawks (6-0) saw themselves in an all out slug fest this weekend when they hosted the Northern California PCFL Champion South Beach Outlaws ( 4-1) but walked away with another shut-out win by the score of 12-0.
"Every game is not gonna be a blow-out so I'm happy that my guys had a good test this early in the season", stated Head coach Leon Williams.
You would have thought it was a baseball game by the score throughout 3 quarters as the Blackhawks led 5-0 going into the fourth.
The Blackhawks scored mid-way through the first quarter on a 40 yard Michael Scott field goal to give Inglewood a 3-0. Early in the third quarter, Inglewood scored again, this time on a safety by defensive tackle Frank Lainez to make the score 5-0.
Both teams defenses played stellar keeping each other from any big plays throughout the game with a bend but don't break attitude.
Winning the field position battle was very important for Inglewood as they kept South Beach on their side of the field for the majority of the game. Quarterback Brandon Brooks scored on a 24 yard touchdown run late in the fourth to seal the deal for the Blackhawks.
Defensively the Blackhawks were led by linebackers Roy Otis (5 tackles, 1 sack) and Corey Johnson (7 tackles, 1 sack) and defensive end Marques Kelley who had 6 tackles and 2 sacks.
Mike Johnson, Jamarrius Martin, Frank Lainez, and Eddie Hunter all had sacks as well totaling 8 sacks on the day. Punter Jonathan Johnson was money for the Blackhawks as he had punts of 43, 48, 48, 35, 36, 54, and 55 averaging 45.5 per punt.
"I'm happy with the way our defense played and even though our offense struggled we didn't turn the ball over and did just enough to win the game and at the end of the day the W is all that matters" William said after the game.
The road gets no easier for the champs as they prepare to host the undefeated Southern California Steelers this weekend in week one of LCFL play for both teams. Kickoff is set for 7PM at Jackie Robinson Stadium tickets are still available via blackhawkfootball.com.
