The Defense Department’s official website, took on a new look overnight, sporting a new home page design that will offer a “one-stop-shop" for news. The new design now features social media, photos, videos, and print stories providing a better experience for users.
According to the press release from the Pentagon, the last major overhaul for the site was more than five years ago.
Another change is the incorporation of the former Pentagon Channel website as part of Defense.gov 's new format making the site easier to navigate for those who scour military and defense-related news sites for information regarding troop losses, changes in Veterans Affairs policies, statements from the Secretaries of the military. Frequent followers also find news regarding international issues, news from the home front and information on newly commissioned ships.
The change reflects the channel’s new role as the broadcast branch of Defense Media Activity’s DoD News division, which also includes the former American Forces Press Service and the Defense Department’s social media branch.
As much news as possible will now be published directly on the home page. Additional or archived information is available to readers by choosing “Resources” from the home page.
The National Military Examiner publishes military and law enforcement-related content on this site and here on Facebook. “Like” the page for additional news from around the globe.
