“Grizzly shooter garners support,” CDAPress.com reports.
Jeremy M. Hill, 33, pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court to killing the animal with a rifle on his 20-acre property near Porthill, Idaho, at the Canadian border. He lives five miles from the closest grizzly bear recovery zone.
It seems Mr. Hill killed a grizzly that had wandered into his yard when his children were present. Hill also maintains the bear and her cubs had gone after some pigs raised by his children.
Because the federal government considers it an endangered species, he now faces charges “punishable by up to a year in prison, a maximum fine of $50,000, and up to one year of supervised release.”
Importantly, we’re told Mr. Hill could have opted to just shoot, shovel and shut up, but he came forward instead.
Also coming forward are supporters—so many that Hill’s arraignment had to be moved to a larger courtroom. Neighbors have raised over $20,000 in Hill’s defense. A state senator stands by him as do the Boundary County Commissioners.
Which brings to mind another case that took place in Boundary County a decade back—or more correctly, one that did not take place. I’m talking about the dismissal of charges against FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi for the murder of Vicki Weaver.
I warned of the potential for that happening before it did, because the prosecutor was compromised with felony forgery charges. The story and my assessment were picked up by WorldNetDaily. And the charges were dropped.
That prompted a few of us to publicly and bitterly complain. Which, naturally, did no good when the “Authorized Journalists” were either oblivious, did not care, or approved of the outcome.
As I said in retrospect :
My own hypothesis, and I emphasize I can't prove it, is that pressure from on high was brought to bear. If I had a drink and a cigar, and was with people I knew around a campfire, I'd be speculating on blackmail/extortion.
It seems we’ve gotten to the point where if you kill a mother bear you go on trial, and if you murder a mother human you don’t. That is, assuming you’re one of the exalted super citizen “Only Ones.” And that there are people in high places who know how to work things when their interests are involved.
