And so all observers have reached an eventuality where there were able to witness a business mistake being made. It was inevitable. A few were made in the past. More are coming.
Intentional or not - redundantly stating in order to drive the fact (not an opinion) - that more mistakes are coming. In case you are asking why that to be the case . . .
. . . because Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao is a human being.
Given that irrevocable link that each of us share, due to our common humanity, as Manny makes mistakes, so do the legions of readers, followers, and observers each and individually make their own. So does he who currently patters on the keyboard to grace his words on the computer screen.
The cynical, the optimist. Men, women, Rich and poor alike. Sporadic comments seem to suggest that the error recently made is somehow that un-gentlemanly curse that is materially diminishing the luster of the National Fist. He is a celebrity. And to the voices of some, "how stupid, selfish, or foolish."
Celebrity, in our contemporary setting, is synonymous with sensationalist errors.
Alex Rodriguez with steroids and prostitutes. Barry Bonds and steroids. Mike Tyson and rape. Lindsay Lohan with drugs, alcohol, and car crashes. Thousands of examples litter our scrolls. Celebrities reflect society, and "normal" individuals have their share of the problems referenced above - if not more.
Manny Pacquiao is a Celebrity. He is also a Hero. Celebrity is different from Hero.
People who do not make (public) mistakes have a combination of the following traits:
- The Courtesan. They have become adept at hiding mistakes and in managing surface appearances - what you may consider "spin". To be sure, intricacies in methods are involved in order to portray an exacting image - a fantasy. While, most reasonable people typically provides a viewpoint favorable to their individual cause, those that excel at appearances and providing spin, are the inauthentic breed. You will find plenty of the scheming courtesans at your medieval royal courts. And downtown parties at clubs and bars.
- The Inconsequential. They have not placed themselves on the line, and thus have nothing at stake. The perennial observer who risks nothing, and opines on everything, including casually opining on those that have risked everything. They predictably whither like the unwatered plant. Why? Because their views mean nothing, even to their own circle. Our actions are an imprint on eternity. Their lack of, truly applies the label.
- The Unsympathetic. Those that cannot empathize with another human being, but rather forms a harsh and brutish judgment on the perceived foibles and shortcomings of others. They view themselves as above the mistake-laden mortal. To be sure, they do not judge themselves harshly. Applying the same rules to assess their own individual circumstances can find, or reveal, the lack of justification for wearing the unsympathetic hat. Most simply do not care, and are apt to spew words they are not aware are detrimental to their societal tribe [in this case, the Philippines] or are hurtful.
As Manny serves as Celebrity to most Western observers, in these eyes a mistake on a legally binding and enforced business contract is standard. It happens to the vast majority of accounting, finance, and medical professionals. Misunderstandings are an occurrence in each and every business enterprise.
As Manny serves as Hero to his countrymen, his services to his fellows are undisputed and gargantuan in proportion to the charitable contributions of Average Joe. Average Joe, we can reasonably attribute less than a hundred dollars, perhaps a few hundred if he is exceedingly generous, per year . . . to such causes as school functions, church, and the local non-profit drive.
We submit some questions.
Manny's millions of dollars - literally - in food, cash, and health services contributions, are they outweighed by a singular business error?
Manny's intention of helping his Society post boxing, is that now diminished from a contracts dispute?

The answers lie within the onlooker - how he judges the world - what lies within his heart. Albert Einstein once said that the most important decision a man has to make in his life is whether he chooses to view the world (and the universe) as a harsh environment or a friendly environment. In my view, hurtful statements hurled at an honorable and decent man, who has given his all for others, has a disposition of character that is not on the same level as Manny - to put it politely.
And when we state that Manny is giving everything he's got on behalf of his people and for all who enjoy boxing, let us conveniently stumble upon a link to a boxer who dies from brain injury due to blows delivered in the ring.
I must confess that it is my suspicion that most with criticisms can not begin to know what such level of contribution and sacrifice is like.

It has been said that fame without accomplishment is a misery. But that accomplishment without fame is a good life. Manny has accomplished beyond most Filipinos' previous grasp of sports imagination . . . that his towering achievements must necessarily effect universal fame. That fame need not be accompanied by misery inflicted by his own fellow.

Well said article. No matter what the situation is, a loyal fan always sticks to his idol through thick and thin. It's so unfortunate that this thing has to happen and other people just condemn the deed without weighing the good things a person had done in the past. To all those so called "fans of Manny" who judged him negatively through this misdeed, you should consider the fact that before there was a Manny Pacquiao in the top boxing world, people look upon us as third rate race in the world. But Pacman brought us to unprecedented heights where even the best and the brilliant of our race had not taken us to. Just for this one single deed alone should merit consideration for whatever fault he had today. He is an inspiration to us by doing what is undeniably impossible to do, he maybe controversial sometimes but his attitudes and demeanor as a celebrity is exemplary (I wonder what notoriety other filipinos of his stature could have done!); the fact that he changed little with the soaring of his celebrity status is amazing!, he is still kind and caring to simple people in the community and my only regrets is that he maybe infuenced a bit by the people surrounding him now like a courdon sanitaire. For all his faults, I would still admire him and love him being a filipino and his loyal fan. Just one side comment though, why does solar refuses to air his fights on ppv in the dream sattelite cable provider in RP? I refuse to go to the theatre because it's nice to watch it with friends and familt at home and enjoy the fight. I hope they do it htis time.
It's so sad that most of the harshest criticisms have come from Manny's countrymen. Let's not forget that every judgment we make about others tells more about ourselves than about them. And one of the biggest mistakes we can make is to confuse behavior with the person. Amen.

I understand that it was a business mistake and just a human error. I also think that everyone shouldnt give much fuzz about it since what we support is Manny as the boxer and not the businessman wherein its all personal to him and should not affect us fans. These mistakes happen and and so what? he has not failed any of us. And if he fails in any match he still does not fail the nation and his fans. Let those 3 networks who are fight over Manny, it does not matter coz Manny will still box. Eventually this issue should die down but the more writers write about it the more people will be aware and try to criticize which wont be healthy for every fan. A mistake is a mistake. lets all agree on that. And a mistake should never be justified in any way.
Manny made a mistake not only through his act but that act was caused by a character flaw which is greed. Now that is the bottom line.
We may stand for Manny and defend him all we want but the question is "does he care at all?" Is he even sorry for his mistake and realized its implication? or its by virtue of an existing contact that his motive was not pushed. Given the same scenario in the future... will he still do the same thing? Remember Manny transfered to GMA because they payed him more....
Skills will bring people to the top...but its their character that will let them stay there for a season.

It is very understandable that a mistake deserve further scrutiny specially if the peron is a public figure no exception.However manny so busy in training ,he deserve a break out from this issue.This is true to all the filipinos who do love to see him win and once more brings pride to the nation.The boxing world at large doesn't symphatize with our internal squabbles ,but for Manny Pacuiao to fight one more time greatly and give them feelings of satisfaction and entertainment.

everybody loves manny! that is, before his contract dispute began. Manny was the country's pride, a hero and the aspiration of most filipinos. He still is. But people change. So has manny. the contract dispute on which media outlet would air his upcoming fight with the hitman on may 2 has clearly distracted him and has made some of pacman's pure believers think twice after all. Yes, his just human and makes mistakes and has apologized. and we accepted that apology. Moving on, away from that sad period of manny's stardom and do what he does best concentrating on his upcoming megafight is what he should be doing, and that's what pacfans expected. But he did'nt. instead, he played the blaming game. C'mon! that media conference led by atty. gacal explaining this and that for me was irrelevant. but i guess that's what they call damage control. the media giant's involved in that dispute had no further comments. ans so should the pacman camp. you represent what a filipino is all about. you are the philippines pride. make us proud!

May i advise you manny to let your spokesman do the talking about legal and similar issues. Its an error that will make you more careful. to me, you are like a man occupying a position like that of a president of a country. You have a great responsibility not only to the filipino people but to worldwide fans. Like countless fans to me, you are a gift to boxing, not only that but divinely sent to spread the FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. I will vote for you whatever position you want in the phil.
