Deer & UFO encounter: Game trail cam captures 'alien' craft in Mississippi

Footage of a deer and UFO encounter has gone viral. Mysterious images from a game trail camera owned by couple in Jackson, Miss. showed photos of what looked like herd of deer being stalked by an unidentified flying object in February. Skeptics say the deer-UFO sighting was a government drone, but others suggest the planet is being visited by extraterrestrial life forms, citing an April 6 Christian Science Monitor report.

A deer in the headlight is one thing, but a UFO being the source of light is another. On Feb. 16, Rainer and Edith Shattles got more than they bargained for when they uploaded images from a trail cam to their computer.

The couple, who live on a large expanse of land in rural Jackson, set a trail cam out -- as many hunters and nature enthusiasts do in the area -- in hopes of capturing a photo of a trophy buck. Instead, the grainy images reveal what appeared to be a aircraft of some kind hovering above the animals.

At first, they thought the object was a vehicle with its headlights bearing down on the herd. However, they soon reasoned that it was too high off the ground to be a road vehicle.

Rainer stopped short of saying the flying object was aliens from outer space or it was further proof of the government using drones to spy on Americans. Simply put, he just wants answers.

Well, if it's alien, I'm not sure about that. But it's definitely a UFO. Now whether it's a government drone or what, I wish if nothing else, one of them would step up and say, 'Yes, that's ours,'" he said.

The story has gone viral, for obvious reasons. After all, there is a growing contingency that strongly believe in life from other planets and that Earth is not the only habitable planet in the universe.

Still, skeptics say these latest photos of deer and a UFO highlight the emerging popularity of gaming cameras for things other than covertly recording wildlife. Many say due to the lack of clarity in many of these black and white images, things like a Bigfoot hoax can be cooked up and serve as the next viral story.
