Harry Reems best known for his role in the porn film "Deep Throat" has died at the age of 65. Fox News reported on Thursday, March 21 that while the exact cause of Reems death has not been officially determined his wife reveals that Harry was suffering from multiple health issues, including pancreatic cancer.
Reems passed away on Tuesday, March 20 at the veterans' hospital in Salt lake City.His death comes just months before the release of "Lovelace", a biographical film starring Amanda Seyfried in the title role and Adam Brody as Reems which will put the spotlight back on one of the 1970s' most active porn actors.
Reems was born in in New York in 1947 as Herbert Streicher. Reems was known as one of the most active and popular pornographic actors of the 1970s and star of the 1972 cult classic, "Deep Throat."
He appeared in approximately 140 feature-length sexploitation and hardcore films between 1971 and 1989, with "Deep Throat" (1972) and "The Devil in Miss Jones" (1973) being the best known, as well as grindhouse roughies like "Forced Entry" (1973) and "Sex Wish" (1976).
"He hated, at the end, doing porn," Jeanne Reems, Harry's wife said. "It was all he could make money doing."
Harry Reems left the porn film industry in 1980, making a move to Park, City Utah, where he started a new career in the real estate business.
Reems experienced some legal issues in 1989 for tax evasion, when he was placed on 5 years probation, and ordered to undergo an alcohol detoxification program, and psychological counseling.
"I met him long after he left the adult film industry. The adult film industry basically destroyed him," stated close family friend, Don Schenk.
Battling numerous health problems, Harry Reems stayed close to home for his last years, while undergoing chemo treatments for the early stage of pancreatic cancer.
"His last year or so was really, really hard," Jeanne Reems said.
Harry Reems is survived by his wife Jeanne and a brother.
