Deep Silver's Dead Island franchise started off strong with its initial release. However, a slew of game killing bugs early on turned away some of the fans who purchased the original game. The zombie genre has exploded like a volcano since the release of the original, and after a second game (Escape Dead Island) was released, there are now zombie related games flooding the market. On Monday, Deep Silver released the first gameplay trailer for the first Dead Island of the next generation, Dead Island 2. Dropping the island altogether, Dead Island 2 will take place in sunny southern California.
Dead Island 2 will take place after the zombie outbreak. This will be Deep Silver's quintessential version as it will be an "intense, visceral romp" featuring seamless multiplayer action on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There will be four characters that are immune to the zombie virus to choose from. The first one is a Berserker class called Ryan. Three more will be revealed over time. Crafting weapons will return, along with the ability to burn, shock, and even freeze enemies.
The trailer, called Sunshine & Slaughter, takes place in Hollywood and shows off different zombies, weapons, and a lot of gore. The game looks to have many different types of kills, as one part of the video shows your character stomping on the head of a zombie and another stabbing the head of one repeatedly while being attacked. The lighting certainly looks to do sunny southern California justice as the environment is bright. The scale of the game has the possibility to be huge on the new generation consoles as the website shows a map in the background that goes up to San Francisco, Sacramento, and north above that.
Dead Island 2 is due out in Spring 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can pre-order the game to unlock the exclusive Golden State Weapon Pack, which features the Grinder, Katana, and Homestrike (these can be viewed in the slideshow). There will be no PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version of the game released. Deep Silver is aiming to deliver the ultimate zombie slayer's paradise. Judging by the trailer, the game looks to be more comedic rather than horror, something similar to Dead Rising possibly.
