Fans of 'Doctor Who' may already be familiar with Peter Capaldi, as this will not be the Scottish actor's first appearance on the show. Capaldi first appeared on 'Doctor Who' back in 2008 for the fourth season episode 'The Fires of Pompeii.' He also has appeared on the third season of the 'Doctor Who' spinoff, 'Torchwood', as a completely separate character.

While some fans are concerned about the drastic change of age between 28 year old Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor to 56 year old Peter Capaldi's portrayal of the Doctor, just as many are excited by this change. It is reported that we can expect the Twelfth Doctor to veer away from the pattern of sexual tension with his companions that has pervaded the show since the reboot in 2006. Instead, it has been rumored we should see a return to the relationship between Doctor and companion that was seen in the earlier reincarnations of the Doctor.

Regardless of whether the rumors are true, thankfully fans will not have to wait much longer. The season premiere episode, 'Deep Breaths' will air at 8:15 tonight on BBC America, after the 'BBC Live Preshow,' which is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm.
