Decreasing Autism, Increasing Christ, and Embracing Life

God is faithful to His Word and will co-labor with us to ensure that we are refined and able to withstand anything that seeks to thwart His purposes.  Over these last several months, our family has learned to:

  1.  1. Trust God above everything and everyone.  In going to our secret place, we were able to develop deep intimacy with God.  He revealed His plan to us, we said “Yes” to His requests, and so far, we have not been disappointed.  At times, we have been stressed; puzzled, overwhelmed, confused, and angry, but we pray over those emotions and continue in obedience.  We know that feelings are fleeting, but God’s ways and His will is eternal.
  2. Stop trying to fix everything and everybody.  We realized God’s word.   It says, He is the potter and we are the clay.  He orchestrates every circumstance and orders our steps.  Every man is accountable for his own actions and vengeance is not ours, it’s the Lord’s.  For our family, this meant releasing control.  We let Jaylen be Jaylen.  We encourage his teachers and his therapists to do everything their way and we simply measure performance not by what or who we “like” but what seems to be growing our son in wisdom and stature.
  3. Avoid shortcuts.  My husband and I decided that we would take the scenic route on this journey.  We want to notice every blossom and gaze at every bird.  We’ll take breaks when we get tired, refresh ourselves as needed and continue to take tackle autism one day at a time. Some days the sun is out and things are cheery.  Other days the rain is pounding and as my mother-in-law would say, “the nights are filled with doom and gloom.”  We drag our feet some days and other days, we sprint ahead.  C’est la vie!   Our goal right now is to simply finish the race.  We’ve realized that shortcuts only shortchange us along the way.

Simply stated…we have found FREEDOM!  (Whoo hoo and cabbage patch dance!)  We will not allow ourselves to be enslaved again by autism or anything else and neither should you!

Tell us how you are doing! We look for any reason to pray or do the cabbage patch. :)

Seeking God’s Best for you and yours,
