This is the season to be jolly—and to see a lot of Christmas lights along many blocks. From suburbia to the avenues of Manhattan, New York is getting ready for December 25th in a bright and colorful way! Although all holiday lights are bright and lovely, some decorators go an extra mile and design their decorations around a theme of charity.
Among the many people that decorate, some families go truly above and beyond the “norm” for Christmas lights. In fact, some houses are decorated so brightly and fantastically that people travel many miles just to get a glimpse of the holiday set-up! This is an incredible achievement for those who take pride in decorating their homes for Christmas and some decide to give back to the community by using the attention of their well-lit homes to collect money for charity.
Several elaborately decorated homes in the NYC area have donation boxes on their lawns amid the dancing snowmen and Santa Claus’. The money that is placed into these donation boxes is used to benefit less fortunate individuals. Some donation boxes are set out to help the poor while others cater to those who are battling an illness but the thought behind the box is the same—to promote the season of giving. Hence, the next time you go to see a very elaborate decoration display look out for a donation box and consider giving at least a dollar, every penny counts!
