Decorate Your Home with DIY Winter Crafts

The winter season is always one of the most expensive. You’ve got to spend your money on holiday enjoyment, and that doesn’t leave a lot of room for home decorating. Use DIY winter crafts to dress your home for the cold season instead, and save money.

Snowmen Candles

Get a small glass fishbowl, available at craft stores and pet stores, and some frost spray paint (a common winter item). Completely spray the bowl with the paint, then add a snowman face with black glass paint. Make a carrot shape using orange clay, and secure it to the front of bowl in the middle of the face. To give the clay carrot nose more support, press a golf tee into the big end and glue this right to the outside of the bowl. Place a white votive candle inside, and light up the frosted bowl with a beautiful, warm glow. Now you’ve got a snowman candle.

Easy Snowmen

Make an entire family of snowmen with fabric, paint and wood. Cut 2-by-6 boards to the desired length, then paint them white. If you use spray paint, be sure to do it outdoors or in a very well-ventilated room. Wrap fabric strips around the boards, about 1/3 of the way from the top, to create scarves. Add black felt to create eyes and a mouth, and an orange strip of fabric for the carrot nose. You can even add buttons and a hat to your snowmen to make them look well-dressed. Place your snowmen outside your home to add pretty winter decor.

Salted Glowing Candles

Get clean, empty mason jars and Epsom salts to create elegant-looking, winterized candles. Paint the interior of the jar with glue and then add Epsom salt, rolling it around in the jar to get an even coating. To make colored jars, place the salt in a bowl first and add one drop of food coloring in the shade of your choice. Mix the salt to spread the color evenly.

Spray clear gloss sealer over the inside of the jar once everything has dried, and place your candle inside once everything is done. When lit, the candles will cast a pretty glow through the salt. It will look like ice crystals!
