Spring is a time for opening up the windows and letting the light shine. It’s also a great time to add color and new decor to your home. Use DIY spring crafts to make decorations more personal and a lot cheaper than the store-bought stuff.
Spring Vase
Turn any glass vase into a spring vase with enamel paint. Clean your vase thoroughly with soap and water, then dip into rubbing alcohol. Use a paintbrush and multiple colors to create swirls in all sizes on the vase. Draw straight lines in green from the swirls to the bottom of the vase, and you have colorful spring flowers. Put some real flowers in the vase to complete the pretty project.
Cure the vase before using it by letting it air cure for 21 days. You may also cure the vase by baking it in the oven at 325 degrees F for 30 minutes. Once cured, the paints are dishwasher-safe.
Egg Candles
What do you do with all the eggs once Easter is over? Turn them into candles, of course!
Actually, you’ll need to use raw eggs to make pretty egg candles. Don’t hard boil them, but do dye them in light, spring colors. Punch a small hole into the top of an egg and chip it out to make a bit bigger, removing the entire top of the egg. Get rid of the guts and rinse out the shell thoroughly. Allow the hollow shell to dry before moving on. Hollow out several eggs, because you will probably break a few in the process of turning them into candles.
Melt beeswax, double boiler method, on the stove. Please be cautious when doing this. Once the wax is thoroughly melted, place your eggs in a carton with the hollow tops facing up. Pour wax into each shell to fill it halfway. Insert the wicks before the wax fully hardens, using a toothpick to guide it into place. Once the wax hardens, you’ll have pretty egg candles. Or, break the shell away to enjoy your egg-shaped candles.
Spring Centerpiece
Turn wooden or Easter baskets into bright, lively spring centerpieces. Clean your basket and allow it to dry before you cover it with a metallic spray paint or bright white. You may need two or even three coats to get complete, even coverage. Place fabric inside the basket and cover the rim. Sew or staple the edges of the fabric to get full coverage. Place a plastic liner inside and fill your basket with spring flowers to create a beautiful centerpiece.
Let your DIY light shine with spring crafts that bring color into your home decor. It’s a new season, and your home deserves some new decoration.
