Beyonce: Life is But a Dream, is an autobiographical documentary airing on HBO which ends up a revealing self journey. She’s more than a voice and a “look,” as the radiant diva internalizes and enlightens to us in her laptop camera. “Stop pretending I have it all together, if I’m scared, I’m scared, release it, let it out and move on.”
Female empowerment, declaration of independence
Her childhood: a domineering father in a happy suburb. She sings smokingly at a piano in a dark room grieving over their traumatic breach when he no longer will be her manager due to his excesses. While some see the documentary as just another narcissist pop star ploy, Beyonce: Life is But a Dream is just as telling as Madonna’s Truth or Dare, with Beyonce answering critics more gently instead of refuting them. Could it be because diva Beyonce has her mother and a husband feat child, by her side to sand off the rough edginess that single roaring woman Madonna did not?
She testifies about her music not her movies
“I’m an artist in the studio, I close my eyes and I feel. I don’t want to hear your criticism, or what you say. I’m truly an artist in the studio.” The grueling physical training of the rehearsal she chose to show may lend an explanation as to why she chose to lipsync the National Anthem at President Obama’s Inauguration. An artist who feels is all her adoring fans ask for.
She talks a lot about her love for Jay Z and their daughter
Beyonce doesn’t mention the child’s birth in an executive suite that blocked another new father from visiting his own newborn child due to the wrath of security and guards. She does sing about the miscarriage of her first child, “the saddest song I’ve ever written in my life.”
“I always battle with how much do I reveal of myself, how much humility, how do I keep my soul and be open with my fans when I walk on stage. Where I want to be over the top and powerful.” The draw for fans is intriguing. Everyone loves her so much.
