“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, do not let yourselves be burdened again with a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)
Celebrations happened all over the country on Independence Day for America aka 4th of July. Barbecues and fireworks were some of the activities enjoyed to commemorate the day. America was once under the rulership of a different nation. Many felt the other nation was ruling unfairly and wanted freedom. Freedom was desired to live under a just and fair treatment of rules. Freedom was won and obtained.
God grants freedom to all who believe in His Son, Jesus. Freedom is granted from sin, death, and hell. God is now the ruler in a believer’s life. The new life is dependent upon God and has received the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps with the activities that maintain freedom such as prayer and Scripture memorization. Freedom grows when these are obeyed and the old ruler, sin, decreases its hold on the believer.
Jesus Christ has set believers free. It came with a price that He won on the cross. One must do what is necessary to guard against being drawn away from Christ and into the chains of slavery that comes with sin. He or she must fight the spiritual battles to gain victory. Celebration of God with songs of praise and acting in faith are weapons to destroy the enemy. God responds to the praises of His people and fights for them.
Believer, you should continue to declare you dependence upon God while receiving freedom and victory over sin. God has declared that you are free in His only Son, Christ Jesus.
Challenge: “Live free in Christ Jesus!” Remember to use your freedom wisely!
