Featuring a joyous and eclectic array of musical talent, the Disney Concert Hall will sparkle with holiday spirit the month of December.
The series will launch on Tuesday December 10 with five time Grammy-winning gospel legends, The Blind Boys of Alabama belting out their rousing and spiritual take on carols, hymns and pop standards. Thursday thru Sat. December 12-14, Music Director, Gustavo Dudamel will lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the acclaimed Los Angeles Children’s Chorus in a wonderful program of traditional Christmas classics featuring selections from Tchaikovsky’s beloved The Nutcracker.
Tuesday December 17, the spotlight will be on Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Judy Collins. Known for her diverse repertoire including folk, show tunes, pop, rock and standards, her silvery voice will fill you with the spirit of Christmas. The following night, Wednesday December 18, David Higgs and the majestic Walt Disney Concert Hall organ will play a program of devotional and festive holiday selections. On the 20th Chanticleer, the Grammy-award winning “orchestra of voices”, whose repertoire ranges from Medieval to Contemporary will bring you their rendition of the season’s offerings of peace and joy.
A cherished Los Angeles tradition and family favorite will fill the bill on Saturday December 21. Come and raise your voice in song, at the Holiday Sing-Along. Famed actress singer Julie Andrews will be the special guest.
The legendary Count Basie Orchestra will take center stage on Monday December 23, bringing their, toe tapping, finger snapping, swinging Kansas City jazz music to the Hall. They’ll be cooking up hot holiday favorites and some of the Basie Band’s finest standards. This brilliant night of jumping jazz is an evening not to be missed.
The gifts are opened, Santa has gone back to the North Pole and it’s time for New Year’s Eve Carnival at the Hall! Ring in 2014 to the explosive beat of Brazil with the Sergio Mendes and Sheila E in a spectacular December 31 celebration. The pulse pounding and vibrant sounds of Samba will fill the Hall when multi-award winning, immensely popular Mendes teams with the vibrant percussionist/drummer Shelia E. Colorful Brazilian dancers and the infectious Bossa Nova will have you clapping, tapping and maybe dancing in the aisle, celebrating the start of a New Year.
