This December the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk www.maritimeaquarium.org, is offering a a roundup of fun holiday activities for the whole family.
Starting in December and running through January 1, Santa will be appearing on the big screen - the IMAX screen to be exact! Back by popular demand, "The Polar Bear Express" based on the 1986 Caldecott Award-winning book by Chris Van Allsburg, is a great way to start a holiday family tradition. The story follows a young boy who doubts the existence of Santa Claus but gets taken on a magical Christmas Eve trip to the North Pole. The Polar Express” will play Nov. 29-Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays and at 4 p.m. on Sundays. From Dec. 26-Jan. 1, “The Polar Express” will play at 4 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. daily (except just at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31). To verify show times visit www.maritimeaquarium.org.
Santa Claus will also be visiting the Aquarium from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on December 7 and 14. Youngsters are encouraged to bring their wish lists to share with Santa. Visits with Santa are free with admission to the Aquarium. While you are there don't forget to cast your vote for your favorite lighthouse at the 12th Annual Lighthouse Festival that is also taking place at this time.
On specific dates in December, Santa will exchange his red winter fur lined boots for a pair of fins when he jumps in the shark tank with the dive team from the Aquarium; divers swim in the shark tank on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:15 & 2:15 p.m. The Ocean Beyond exhibit has a 7-foot sand tiger and lemon sharks. Viewing the Santa shark dives is free with Aquarium admission.
