December 7: Launchpad hosts ‘High Desert Doom Fest’

On December 7, Albuquerque’s own Launchpad hosts the “High Desert Doom Fest,” featuring the following killer bands: Stonerist, Black Maria, Black Lamb, Hanta, Prey for Kali, Marsupious, The Horned God, Skulldron, and Rezin Tree. Doors for this 21+ show are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with the first band taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Entry is only $8 but is subject to change at the door.

Stonerist play a mix of sludge and doom metal. The band has within its ranks members of Cephalic Carnage and Vale of Miscreation.

Hailing from Albuquerque, Black Maria play stoner rock.

Albuquerque’s Hanta (a Roñoso side project) play blackened crust.

Albuquerque’s Prey for Kali are recording new material. The band plays a heavy, almost doomy style of metal that also has plenty of groove and vibe.

Albuquerque’s Marsupious note of their genre of music: “You tell us and we will all know.”

Albuquerque’s The Horned God play Celtic-inspired stoner rock. Who is the Horned God? The son, brother, lover, and consort of the Lady.

Formed in 2010, Albuquerque’s Skulldron play doom/stoner metal. With influences such as Black Sabbath, Orange Goblin, and Electric Wizard, expect some killer sounds from these dudes. Skulldron’s latest full-length studio CD is titled Iiber Unum.

Rezin Tree play high desert death doom.

Around since 1997, Albuquerque’s Launchpad has played host to bands of numerous genres, including punk, indie rock, and metal. The Launchpad is located on 618 Central Avenue Southwest, which is between 6th and 7th streets.
