From the writer and producer of Taken and Transporter 3 comes the exciting action-packed film Colombiana starring the hot and sexy Zoë Saldana, along with Michael Vartan, Jordi Mollà , Lenni James and Cliff Curtis. In Bogota, Colombia, a young girl named Cataleya Restrepo witnesses the murder of her parents by drug lord Don Luis’s capo Marcos. Barely escaping Marcos and his thugs, she runs to the Ambassador’s office and barters for a U.S. passport by offering him valuable information her father gave her. Once she arrives in America, she goes to live with her uncle Emilio in Chicago and asks him to teach her how to become a killer so she can avenge her parents’ death.
Fifteen years later, Cataleya has become a masterful assassin and leads a double life. She works for her uncle and lives with her artist boyfriend Danny Delaney, who knows nothing about her other life. Still on a quest to find the mobsters responsible for her parents’ deaths, she leaves a drawing of the cataleya (an orchid) on her victims. Her wish comes true when the FBI investigating the murders releases her calling card to the public. Don Luis, who has now relocated to the U.S., sends Marcos after Cataleya to finish the job. With revenge so close, will she be ready for the moment she has trained for all her life or will she meet the same fate as her parents?
Colombiana revolves around a simple predictable plot: a child sees the parents murdered and seeks revenge. What makes this film unique is Zoë Saldana’s amazing femme fatale performance and the high-octane straight-up action. Luc Besson, who introduced the world to parkour (that can be seen in District 13), lures the audience in with the heart-pounding parkour chase scene at the beginning of the film. And it never stops from there as Saldana’s stone-cold killer character carries the film with every shootout and fight scene. Overall, Colombiana is an exciting, fun thrill ride until the end and if you are a fan of Besson’s EuropaCorp films, you will definitely need to add this to your movie repertoire.
Colombiana on DVD and Blu-ray will include the never-before-seen unrated version of the film, with even more nonstop action and shocking violence.
