Soulful pop newcomer Moxie releases her debut single, “Buffalo Bill,” along with an official video with lyrics, today via The Brain/Capitol Records. The track is available from iTunes HERE, while the video can be watched HERE. A twisted valentine about universal love built on bouncy beats, fuzzed-out grooves, and dreamy keyboard tones, the instantly addictive tune is a showcase for Moxie Raia’s sultry voice, ear for sing-along melodies, and transparently raw lyrics. Throughout the song she shows off her sweet but sexed-up vocals, alternating between tough and tender as she sings about drinking whiskey and worshipping Keith Richards.

Raised by Motown-obsessed parents in small-town New Jersey, Moxie began writing songs at age 8 when she formed her first band. She moved to New York City at 13 to attend a performing arts high school and threw herself into songwriting, dancing, and learning to play piano and guitar. She eventually met songwriter-producer Freddy Wexler, who invited her to join him and a group of other talented writers in his collective The Brain House, where she began collaborating on songs for artists like Lil Wayne and Shakira. She is now signed to Wexler’s label The Brain and Capitol Records.

Moxie began attracting the attention of the blogosphere earlier this year with “Bad Decisions” (which appears on her first mix tape R.P.Y.) and a cover of Big Sean’s “Beware,” (Preview) both of which made the rounds on the Hype Machine hip hop and pop blogs.
