Congresswoman Giffords you are certainly invited to come to Baltimore any time. This beleaguered city would welcome your grace and insight. Thanks to Detroit, Charm City is no longer the murder capital of the country, but killing is everywhere.
In case, dear reader, you were vacationing in the Maldives or have trained your brain to block out the vicious braying of Republicans and gun lovers, the state representative from the Newtown area in Connecticut basically said the Congresswoman was not welcome.
Giffords came to meet with families who lives were shattered by the school shooting.
(If Keith Olbermann were still taking his meds, he would cite DebraLee as the Worst Person in the World.)
Oh DebraLee. When horrific tragedy befalls someone, they can reach out to their faith or to a support group that provides insight and understanding. Which is why such organizations exist for virtually every sad aspect of contemporary life.
The former congresswoman is not running for office nor is she selling Amway. Her own experience of being badly wounded and surrounded by death at what started out as an ordinary community meeting gives her empathy. Her public service and intelligence can perhaps provide some small amelioration. Or maybe ideas to prevent future tragedies.
Grieving relatives were not forced to meet with Giffords nor was any conversations made public.
Families are struggling to proceed with their lives in the face of cruel loss. DebraLee don’t tell people how to mourn or grieve or honor those who have died.
Because just acting brain dead doesn’t count,
