Debra medina: Libertarian-Republican or Republican-Libertarian?

Debra medina launches her TV ad in 5 Texas cities
in her bid for the Lone Star Governor's office.

The Dallas Morning News reported today that Debra Medina is launching her TV ad campaign for Texas governor in five cities (not including the Dallas/Ft. Worth area) on Sunday.

The News describes Medina, who is gunning for the Republican Party endorsement, as "more libertarian than typical Republican conservatives" and a Ron Paul supporter. Ron Paul, on the other hand, is a Republican who is certainly more libertarian than typical Republican conservatives but is not necessarily a Debra Median supporter.

The Houston Chronicle of September 2 published a letter from Ron Paul titled "Dear Defender of Liberty" in which, according to The Chron, Paul "writes glowingly about Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina" but says, "This isn't exactly a letter of endorsement."

A quick search of the browser world turned up no actual Ron Paul endorsement of Debra Medina as of this date. (One site titled the same letter "Ron Paul Endorsing Debra Medina" but there's no Ron Paul listed on the Debra Medina for Governor website Endorsements page.)

Few of the early opinionizers who posted their views in the "comment" box at the bottom of the Online News' Medina article can be described as "writes glowingly."

One thoughtful, intelligent reader named "True Believer" described Medina as a Whacko, nut job, and stupid because "Legalizing drugs is as stupid as legalizing prostitution or giving amnesty to illegal aliens. It is illegal."

Freedom-loving folks will be glad this True believer wasn't around in earlier periods of American history:

  • Peter Zenger can't print whatever he thinks just because it's true. It is illegal.
  • Colonists can't rebel against England. It is illegal.
  • Slaves can't just up and run away from their masters. It is illegal.
  • Women can't vote. It is illegal.
  • Common citizens can't carry guns. It is illegal.
  • Sick people can't smoke medical marijuana. It is illegal.

We know what this True Believer believes (the law as it currently exists has the force of God), but that's about it.

But Medina does have her supporters and their voices are clear and strong the farther down the page one scrolls.

So if you're a Texas Republican ready to vote Libertarian, or a Libertarian ready to vote Republican, Lady Medina just may be your candidate.

If she can make someone like "True believer" that irrationally upset with her calmly reasoned position on ending prohibition, she is probably worth the support of those who still find value in voting.

Medina is Libertarian on domestic matters, but seems unconcerned about the threat from Islamic extremism, which makes her decidedly un-Libertarian on foreign policy, and more of a Liberal Pacifist sort.

Why be concerned about foreign policy for a Governor's race?

Just last September a Islamic Jihadist from Jordan, residing in Italy, Texas attempted to blow-up Dallas's biggest skyscraper in the name of "Allah."

Somehow I'd feel a lot safer with Rick Perry as my Governor than Ms. Medina.

"Islamic extremism"... "un-Libertarian"... "Islamic Jihadist"... "feel a lot safer" Yep. Nothing vaguely libertarian there. No surprises considering the source.

Eric, you make a thoughtful point. However as a Debra Medina supporter, I would ask that you reevaluate your support for Rick Perry in light of your "Libertarian Republican" signature.

First, how do you reconcile recommending Texas policy reflect the failing foreign policy interests of interventionism since that violates the principles of freedom you profess in the title "Libertarian Republican".

Second, how do you rank your priorities when selecting your choice in candidates? I have learned the hard way trust has to come first and Rick has lost my trust completely for three reasons in particular. Specifically, TTC/Cintra, Merck/Gardasil, and the Texas Enterprise Fund slush fund schemes all of which helped him indirectly while burning the rights of Texas citizens.

Of course, I do envy Rick Perry's hair...

Eric is the same Eric Dondero who was fired from Representative Paul's staff due to his unprofessional behavior.

I don't think I would take foreign policy advice from Eric, he can't even hold down a staffer job and has become the biggest troll ever to bash the liberty movement.

Good on ya Eric, your mom would be so proud.....

We quit voting for incumbents. Debra Medina is our choice.

Debra is our choice for Texas Governor as well, regardless of what ticket she may run under.

Whether or not he is listed on Debra's page as an endorsement, it seems that Ron Paul's letter is clearly that. How else could any rational mind interpret that letter?

    Eric Dondero:
Rick Perry on Ft Hood: we need more government control of personal behavior.
Debra Medina on Ft Hood: No matter the amount of police, personal security is your right to arm your self.

    Quit researchable facts on Hemp.

This should be ------- REPEALED---- Send this to your U.S. CONGRESS PERSON.
-Some of this you may already know, but there are lots of facts you probably didn't...
the beginning of the "marijuana myth".... also that hemp is still a commercially viable "green" source of energy, paper, clothing, extremley strong biodegradable plastics, etc. not to mention the real medicinal benefits.......

    The Marijuana Trick
    Doug Yurchey – 2005

And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the reproach of the heathen anymore. – Ezekiel 34:29 - Geneva Study Bible (A. D. 1599)

Exactly where did the word "marijuana" come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant... as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopaedia Britannica which was printed on hemp pap
