In an interview posted yesterday by USA Today, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said that in the wake of the Navy Yard mass killing this week, Republicans are "petrified" of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and "refuse" to pass "any common sense changes in the laws related to gun safety."
"...We have almost exclusively Republicans who have ceded their decision-making on what's best for the country and what's best for preventing violence-related death from occurring to outside organizations, particularly the NRA."
Wasserman Schultz also told interviewer Susan Page,
"You have too many Republican members of Congress who refuse to support any common sense changes in the laws related to gun safety, refuse to support the simplest of background checks because these members are petrified of being challenged by the NRA and having their resources poured in against them in their re-election. They have essentially ceded their own vote on common sense gun safety laws to the NRA." [emphasis added]
Aside from her disingenuous comments surrounding motives of those who actually support the Second Amendment, Wasserman Schultz conveniently forgot to mention that the shooting occurred in a "gun free zone" in a town with strict gun control laws, yet still "finished first in gun-related robberies per 100,000 people – with 242.56" as reported by Jason Howerton of TheBlaze.
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz also decried the "hardcore group of Tea Party extremists" who, she declared, are "in charge of the House of Representatives right now," as reported Friday by the Examiner.
