Debbie Friedman hospitalized and fighting for her life

Debbie Friedman, perhaps the most famous and most popular among modern Jewish singers and songwriters is fighting for her life in a Orange county hospital.

According to The Jewish Journal, "Friedman is reportedly sedated and on a respirator, according to an email sent Wednesday from the West Coast office of the Union for Reform Judaism. The email asked that prayers be said on Friedman’s behalf, as well as for her mother, sister and aunt.

Debbie Friedman, "An immensely popular singer and songwriter, is widely credited with reinvigorating synagogue music by introducing a more folksy, sing-along style to American congregations. In 2007, she was appointed to the faculty of the Reform movement’s cantorial school in a sign that her style had gained mainstream acceptance. She is best known for her composition “Mi Shebeirach,” a prayer for healing that is sung in many North American congregations.

Joshua Holo, Dean at the Hebrew Union College requests that we, " Pray this week and on Shabbat, sing the songs that have accompanied your growing up, sing her Mi She-berach with all the power you have--get together with friends and colleagues and sing other songs of hers together--let her hear us in her bed in Orange County, and let the Holy One hear us in the heights of heaven. We are but a few weeks past Chanukah, a season of miracles, and already we are past the winter solstice; the days are getting longer even as we speak; the light is returning.  Or zarua la-tzadik--plant the seeds of light in all the places you can on behalf of this remarkable woman who has given so much to the Reform Movement and  to Jews all over the world.

Let us all pray that the Source of Blessing keep Debbie Fridman's light alive. May she return to us quickly with a, "Renewal of Spirt, a Renewal of body, and Let us all say, AMEN."
