I was looking over FBI statistics on deaths by circumstances for the period between 2004 and 2008 and came up with at least one startling number.
Murders entered into the FBI system declined 6 percent between 2006 (15,087) and 2008 (14,180). They’re pretty much stayed the same for the years 2004 (14,210) and 2008 (14,180), but there was even a slight decline there.
Homicide of children by babysitters, however, increased 88 percent between 2006 (27) and 2008 (51). And they tripled between 2004 (17) and 2008 (51).
So what’s up with that?
Between 2006 and 2008 homicides involving narcotics drug laws declined 37 percent.
Juvenile gangland killings declined 17 percent.
Homicides resulting from robberies declined more than 12 percent.
Among some two dozen homicide circumstances, in fact, babysitters killing children was the only category, the only category, to increase every year between 2004 and 2008.
Can someone explain this to me? HomicideExaminer@gmail.com
I’ll try to make some calls tomorrow.
