A domestic dispute ended tragically when a man shot and killed seven victims in a crowded salon where his ex-wife worked.

Allegedly, prior to the murders the couple had a verbal argument regarding custody of their eight-year-old son.

Scott Evans Dekraai, of Huntington Beach, walked into Salon Meritage in Seal Beach with the intention of murdering all fifteen inhabitants, including his ex-wife. He is accused of wearing a bullet-proof-vest and arming himself with three firearms. Dekraai allegedly shot victims at close range in the head and chest. Seven people were shot inside the salon. A man in a dark sports utility vehicle was shot by Dekraai outside the salon as Dekraai fled the scene.

Some victims managed to escape by hiding in private treatment rooms or running outside. Dekraai eventually ran outside to his truck to escape the scene. He was apprehended seconds after he drove away by an emergency traffic stop. Dekraai was apprehended in possession of three firearms and ammunition in his truck.

Dekraai is charged with eight felony counts of special circumstances murder for committing multiple murders and one felony count of attempted murder. The Orange County District Attorney has made the decision to seek the death penalty in this case.
