Death on LA’s working waterfront

A man was crushed to death Saturday night at the Port of Los Angeles when he was pinned by an empty freight trailer, officials said.

The incident was reported at 7:23 p.m. at the Evergreen terminal on Berth 229, said port spokesman Phillip Sanfield.

The victim, whose name was not released, died at the scene. He was 50 to 60 years old, said Shawn Lenske of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"The victim had been pinned and crushed by an empty trailer that was moved by a utility tractor," Lenske said.The Los Angeles Fire Department was the first agency on the scene. In addition to Los Angeles and port police, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating, Lenske said.
No other information was available late Saturday.
