Dearborn residents are invited to bring their family and neighbors to the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center tomorrow for a free evening of food, entertainment, and community unity with Mayor John B. O'Reilly Jr.
From 5-7 p.m. Thursday, the Hubbard Ballroom and hall lobby in the center (at 15801 Michigan Ave.) will be filled with activities provided by Jannie Annie the Clown, Edsel Ford High School Jazz Band, Karaoke Corner, the Key Clubs of Dearborn and Fordson High Schools, face painting, and balloon animals. The mayor will also do a welcome, said Committee for Unity member Kathy Steigerwald.
There is no cost for attending the event, she said, adding that the reason the committee is putting on the event is because “it's a chance to get back to what we did years ago.
“If you recall, Mayor Guido used to do this every year, open up the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center to everybody in the community,” Steigerwald said. “That's what Jack O'Reilly is doing, and this is the first year for him to do this.”
The committee has been putting flyers into churches, schools, and civic centers to publicize the event, Steigerwald added, “and if it works out and people are happy with the event, maybe we'll start doing this every couple years."
