'Dear Mandela' now available on DVD and TVOD

Following a successful theatrical run in New York and screenings in Haitian displacement camps, Brazilian favelas and South African shantytowns, the award-winning feature-length documentary "Dear Mandela" is now available on DVD and TVOD outlets iTunes, Amazon, Playstation, Vudu, Xbox, Google Play and SundanceNow.

The documentary film discovers a promising new generation of South African activists as they fight for the housing promised by Nelson Mandela when his ANC party first came to power.

Winner of eight international awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Brooklyn Film Festival, and the Grand Jury Award at the One World Film Festival, Ottawa, the film is "a remarkably lucid view of a situation that is as complex as it is urgent."

"Dear Mandela" was directed by Dara Kell, a South African filmmaker and journalist. She has worked on a number of high-profile films and television shows, including Academy Award nominee "Jesus Camp" and Emmy Award winner "Diamond At The Rock"

For "Dear Mandela," she was selected as a fellow at the Sundance Institute Documentary Composers Lab, the Sundance Institute Creative Producers Lab and the IFP Documentary Lab.

In 2013 she was named one of the Mail & Guardian's ‘Young South Africans’ – recognized leaders under 35 and is the recipient of Participant Media’s ‘Outstanding Filmmaker’ award, representing Africa.

The film's co-director Christopher Nizza is a native of New York City and an Emmy winner for his work at MSG Network, is an award-winning music video director and documentary editor.

He produced and edited stories for NBC’s coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, the highest rated venue at the Games. He is a founding member of the University of the Poor, a project dedicated to using video and new technologies as part of a broad movement to end poverty, and an alumnus of the Sundance Institute Documentary Composers Lab, the Sundance Institute Creative Producers Lab and the IFP Documentary Lab.
