Dear Elly,

Q: We are thinking ahead about baby names for our children and would like to name them Ruby and Jeffrey after ourselves. We hope to have one boy and one girl. Do you think this would be too confusing or conceited?

Sincerely,

Ruby and Jeffrey

Dear Ruby and Jeffrey,

A: A lot of people name children after themselves however, I personally would not recommend it for their first names. Naming your children directly after yourselves might get pretty confusing under one roof. As an alternative one helpful idea might be to make their middle names the same as your first names and choose different first names for them instead. Check out my article for ideas on "Ways to prevent your son from becoming a Jr." It includes many helpful tips that may apply towards naming a daughter as well.

Best of Luck!

Elly
