Andy is a little lost dog with a huge following and a big price on his head. Scared by fireworks while visiting in Westport, Connecticut from Plymouth, Massachusetts on December 31, Andy ran away and has eluded every effort so far to reunite him with his family.
There are almost two thousand fans on the eleven year old Corgi's Facebook page, Bring Andy Home ~ eager for any update, full of suggestions and praying for the final words "Andy is home and safe". Countless people have hung posters, handed out flyers, walked and driven through neighborhoods around the clock, and sat strategically parked in their cars all hoping to help that moment happen. Yesterday, even this writer crossed from the former category into the latter.
Andy's travels have taken him from Westport into Norwalk and he appears to have settled for the time being in Rowayton. There have been sightings daily in the same area ~ but each time the moment is fleeting as the clearly still frightened canine bolts back into the safety of the abundant wooded areas of the exclusive community.
The heartache and frustration his family must feel is unimaginable. Always so close and yet so far ~ a stone's throw away from what could be a reunion but for the fact that Andy keeps running.
There is talk now of setting traps for Andy, and the process has already begun. This may truly be the only way to ensure his safe return. Certainly nothing would be better than to know that he is back where he belongs and Andy, his family, friends and followers as well as the residents of an entire zip code can resume life as it was before he went missing.
