Dean Cain speaks out on former flame Mindy McCready's suicide

Dean Cain spoke out about the suicide of Mindy McCready, his one-time fianceé, in a candid interview with People Magazine yesterday. Cain and McCready became engaged in 1997 shortly after she took the country music scene by storm, but the couple split a year later.

In the interview, Cain described McCready as someone prone to arguments and drama. He even went so far as to call her "poisonous" in describing why he eventually ended the relationship and moved into a hotel to escape her. "I can't paint too pretty a picture," the actor told People. "She was...not somebody I was going to have in my life anymore - or anywhere around my son."

McCready, a country music star who suffered through many years of drug and alcohol problems that played out in the media, took her own life on February 17. She reportedly died of self-inflicted gunshot wound on the porch of her Arkansas home. It was the same location where her long-time love David Wilson had died a month earlier in a suspected suicide. McCready was just 37 and left behind two young sons.

Although Cain says he was saddened by her death, he also says he wasn't surprised. "Red flags were everywhere," he told People.
