The social buying site Deals For Deeds announced “Eat Local First” today, a special two-week series of deals which will take place June 27-July 10, 2011. The promotion will feature restaurants and businesses that display a commitment to using sustainable, locally sourced ingredients, and a dedication to being a part of the local economy. Some of DC’s most popular establishments will be featured and 15% of every purchase will directly support Think Local First, a non-profit working with independent businesses, consumers and policymakers to grow a sustainable, local economy in Washington, DC.
The goal of the week is to raise $3,000 for the organization’s Eat Local First Campaign, which will work to create programs that link local farmers with local businesses and showcase businesses that are sourcing locally. “This promotion ties in with the kick-off week of our campaign. We are excited to work with Deals for Deeds to showcase some of the DC area’s best restaurants that are also committed to sourcing ingredients locally,” says Stacey Price, Director of Communications for Think Local First. Participating locations include Hello Cupcake, The Diner, Open City, Policy, and more.
