Dear Annie, I met Matt online. I live in San Francisco and he lives in Berkeley. He drove into San Francisco for our first date. We enjoyed a nice dinner and drinks. He asked me out again, but this time he wants to meet for a movie in Berkeley.
If he were really interested, wouldn’t he come to San Francisco for a second date? Do you think he is testing me to see if I am flexible? Gloria
Gloria, I doubt that he is analyzing things as deeply as you are. Perhaps it’s important to him you share the burden of the Bay Bridge commute. Or, maybe he wants you to see his neighborhood.
Traffic conditions in Bay Area bridges and freeways can be a huge obstacle to a dating relationship, even if you live just a few miles apart. If you’re not willing or able to navigate those, let him before you meet. Then he will know that if he wants to date you, he is responsible for transportation.
Should you and Matt continue dating for a while, discuss how each of you would like to handle the commute, and come to a mutually beneficial solution.
But, this is just a second date. Make the most of it by focusing on discovering how well you get along with each other.
