Tennis season is finally here! The deadlines for two Boulder-area tennis tournaments are the first week in May, 2011. The LAC Front Range Tennis Championships will be held May 10-15, 2011, and the deadline to enter is midnight, Tuesday, May 3, 2011. The 45th Annual Austin Scott Memorial will run from May 14 through May 21, 2011, and the entry deadline is Saturday, May 7, 2011.
The LAC Front Range Tennis Championships will be held May 10-15 at the Longmont Athletic Club, 10 Mountain View Avenue. Events include men's singles and doubles at 3.0-5.0 NTRP levels, women's singles and doubles at 2.5-4.5 NTRP levels, and mixed doubles at 3.0-4.5 NTRP levels. Cost is $33 per singles event and $23 per player per doubles event. Judi Laursen, pro at LAC and tournament director, says this is a great warm-up for league season. The Austin Scott Memorial tournament is the premier event sponsored by the Boulder Tennis Association. It is a designated event for 4.5, 4.0, 3.5, and 3.0 NTRP events, and it was the first zero-waste tennis tournament in the country. This year, tournament organizers moved the tournament from its traditional late-April slot to mid-May, hoping for more favorable weather than in the past. The tournament is held at the picturesque CU South Tennis Courts in south Boulder. Events include men's and women's singles and doubles at the 2.5-5.0 levels, mixed doubles at the 2.5-5.0 levels, and several "open" events. Open events include men's and women's singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and age category singles and doubles for 40, 50, 60, and 70 age groups.
