Tomorrow will be the deadline for Dearborn Heights senior citizens to sign up for a “Senior Day” at the May 8 Detroit Tigers game against the Houston Astros.

May 5 will be the deadline for Dearborn Heights residents ages 55 and over signing up for “Senior Day” at the Detroit Tigers farm team game May 12, the Toledo Mudhens versus the Rochester Red Wings. Registration for the bus trips (sponsored by Dearborn Heights Parks and Recreation and SMART) can be done between 9-4 p.m. weekdays (including the April 30 deadline for the Tiger game) at either the Eton Senior Center, 4900 Pardee; or Berwyn Senior Center, 26155 Richardson.

“Yes, it seems a lot of our seniors are baseball fans,” Eton Senior Citizen Coordinator Carol Spaeth said. “They seem to enjoy the Tigers and Mud Hens.”

The motorcoach will depart Eton at 11 a.m. and Berwyn at 11:15 a.m. for Comerica Park. Senior Day tickets include a hot dog and small soft drink.

The motorcoach will depart Berwyn at 9 a.m. and Eton at 9:15 a.m. for Toledo. Seats are available at field level. Those going on the trip can also enjoy the Senior Day game from their own private covered patio, where a buffet will be served (angus hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, chips, watermelon, lemonade, Pepsi products and bottled water).

Following the games, Spaeth said that the return at the senior centers are being estimated for around 3 p.m. for the Toledo game, and around 4 p.m. for the Detroit game.

Proof of residency is required when registering at either center (the cost is $36 for residents for the Detroit Tiger game, and $31 for the Toledo Mud Hens, with checks made payable to the City of Dearborn Heights). Emergency medical cards must be completed before anyone attends a trip.

The schedule for bus pickups are not boarding times but leaving times, so those registered are advised be there at least 15 minutes prior to departure. Those late will be left behind without any refund (refunds will only be available if the city or person canceling can fill the spot). In the event anyone cannot attend a trip signed up for, call the senior center as soon as possible (Leslie at (734) 740-5071, Berwyn at (313) 791-3550 or Eton at (313) 791-3550) so the spot can be filled with someone on the wait list.

For more information, call Berwyn at (313) 791-3550 or Eton at (313) 791-3500 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
